Dealers at two Atlantic City casinos have voted in favor of striking. The casinos have said that they will be hiring replacement dealers when the strike occurs.
J. Carlos Tolosa, eastern regional President of Harrah’s Entertainment said: “There are 14,000 employees in Atlantic City who rely on Harrah’s for their livelihood, and we are not going to let the misguided tactics of the UAW interfere with our guests or the employees who are working hard to keep Atlantic City competitive this summer.”
Dealers authorized strikes at Caesars Atlantic City and Bally’s Atlantic City this past weekend. Workers at the Tropicana Casino and Resort have already authorized a strike in previous months.
Dealers joining a union is something new to Atlantic City casinos. While other casino workers have been unionized for years, dealers have just recently started to be approached by the UAW. Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino dealers also have unionized, but they have yet to vote on a strike.
